The 6th Annual Soup & Chowder Festival is Saturday December 14 at the QIA 11am until the soup runs out.
This fundraiser for the Friends of the Quartzsite Food Bank is looking for individuals, businesses, and organizations to enter their best soup or chowder for the contest. Also, there is a dessert contest that supplies the event with the most wonderful sweets. During the event, there will be raffles and 50/50 to enter.
To enter the contests or have an item for the raffle call 480-286-8373.
Well it is not to early to start making plans for the next Annual Soup and Chowder Festival. This will be the sixth year we have done this. Each year more people get involved and we are able to raise more funds for our local food bank.
The date for the event this year is Saturday December 14,2019. With the help of many in the community we can join hands and make this years event the best one yet. What a wonderful way of getting
local residents, visitors, businesses, clubs, non profits all together to help those truly in need of a helping hand.
2018 First place the Yacht Club and second was the new store in town the Coyote Fresh Foods, Third place went to a newbie in town LeDell Greshan.
Peoples choice was Laurie Curran and her Mother Alletta Hanna with their Taco soup.
The Dessert contest was won by Annette Belz with an awesome carrot cake.
I want to sincerely like to thank all of the people who helped with this event and the QIA. Without their help and support to the food bank we would have nothing for those truly in need.
Some of you might wonder why we push this event so much. Here are a few good reasons you may or may not know about The food bank in Quartzsite.
It is there to serve your friends, relatives, veterans, families, the elderly, the disabled and maybe even you one day if not now.
On average we have given a hand up to over 500 people a month. Of them we average
109 were disabled
77 were veterans
40 are families
29 are female single head of household
85 are under 18
45 are 18 to 30
208 are 31 to 59
164 are over 60 to 70
122 are over 70
So when you are deciding which non profits you may consider to make donations to please consider the Friends of the Quartzsite Food Bank.
Also if you have some spare time and a willing body if you are free and want to offer a helping hand passing out food or helping in the facility on Tuesday or Thursday from 8 AM to Noon stop by and see how you may help. Most of the folks helping there are seniors and would appreciate a helping hand
