Quartzsite Food Bank hopes to make an impact on people's lives. To give them a hand-up to a better healthier life.
Here are some stories shared with us that did just that.
I wish to thank Quartzsite Food Bank!
Tuesday's and Thursdays, why it's the place to be!
Met with smiles, often from people like Jason, Tomi, Lee or Fran. Grab a nice cool water by the door then go in and get much more!
Sign you name, pick up your boxes along with fresh bread, fruits and veggies.
I am truly grateful for the help filling in the gaps between the checks!!
Thx Everyone!
Susan
Like many others my only income is social security. By coming to the food bank I can stretch my limited budget.
I get to try a variety of foods that I normally wouldn't buy due to high prices in the stores.
The fruit and vegetables are in very nice condition. Also both the boxed foods and fresh are a nice variety which helps me to have balanced meals.
Carols Closet also helps me to have nice clothes/shoes etc. Otherwise I couldn't afford to buy the items that I'm freely given by the very friendly volunteers.
Many thanks to all of them!

How the Food Bank has helped me:
In Two Words – Stress Relief
I'm on disability, below poverty level but too high for food stamps.
I'm prudent, but given inflation, I find myself short before my next check. In months when there are 5 (not 4) weeks between checks, the food bank helps me survive.
Knowing I won't have to go without food for a week (or two) is a great relief.
Because I know what it's like to starve.
During the five years I endured to finally get disability, I nearly starved to death.
Maybe AZ law is kinder, but in NC, at the time, only a woman with children could get food stamps.
No food bank existed.
I am grateful for the food bank because it exists.
Knowing it exists helps me.
Because I don't worry I'll starve to death.
I nearly did.
I spent five years in a primitive mountain cabin, struggling to survive.
Genuinely ill, starvation did not improve my strength, condition, or ability to work.
Denied food stamps, I sold all I owned for a pittance, for beans, rice, onions and ramen.
Black beans, onions, rice 3x daily for years.
Then, only tea and ramen. Tea warmed. Ramen warmed and gave my growling stomach something to gnaw on.
I survived a skeletal 80 pounds, teeth squiggling in bleeding gums.
(This isn't a 3rd world country. Right?)
No food bank. No meat. Not dairy. No produce. Not even canned vegetables.
I can still panic worrying I'm going to starve, because it's 2 weeks until my next check.
But I can go to the food bank.

Quartzsite is a travelers town many pass thru. My personal experience I arrived on foot backpacking across country. I was told of the food bank a a resource when I arrived as I live a humble life. I walked in and was received with smiles. Smiles are contagious folks!
My Thursday mornings are spent walking to visiting the food bank. As you open the door you feel the comfort, love and compassion.
Once I was doing my weekly visit, I was deep in my head dealing with deception, and not expressing any of this outward. A lad who volunteers walks in and just gives me a hug! Talk about feeling loved!!
That's the food bank, a generous smile, a sincere empathy to our concerns and a realization we need to be healthy. Not only on the inside by food but fellowship. Most folks see my humble appearance and look away and completely ignore my existence. I walk into the food bank with arms wide open.
We all loose focus and deal with our own inner demons and negativity of life. We go to the food bank as a resource for food to survive. There is no judgment, only a concern for your well being. Get Healthy!!
I know my first visit needing to ask for food I felt humility and was received with love and compassion.
I greatly give thanks and prayers to each volunteer for feeding my mind, body and soul you encouraged me to make Quartzsite my home with love and thanks.
John
